laptop screen flickers

the screen on my laptop flickers colors and there are lines running through middle red blue green ect.. and sometimes it will just show a blue screen fades to white ect,, it does work on an external monitor tho what would be the cause to this and what would or could i do to fix it ? i do have pics of what its doing
