Laptop screen advice

Nov 17, 2009 11:13PM PST

My current laptop (Dell Inspiron 6000) has a screen that works great indoors but almost completely washes out if taken outdoors, even in the shade. Has that been overcome by today's screen technology, or is there something I can look for in the display specs for great outdoor screen readability? It's not easy to get the store folks to let me take one of their display laptops outdoors for a test.

Yes, but for a price.

The Transflective LCD used in Toughbooks and other laptops (like http://www.ruggednotebooks.com/ and others) means you can get what you want. But since this is not in mass production, sold at Walmart you see you pay for it.
