Question

Laptop Running Slow.

Feb 6, 2015 3:16AM PST

I was given my mother's laptop to try and sort out what could be the problem with it.

She's noticed that recently it has slowed down tremendously. She's gone through all the troubleshooting she knows, uninstalled a good amount of extra games and such but it's still crippling slow. I've ran a few different anti virus scans and they all come up with "No problems detected"

So I'm at a loss as to what it could be.

The laptop is a Gateway NV57H

I did check the performance tab of task manager and the CPU bounces from 80s to 100 most of the time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated by all.

Thanks for your time.

I tried those steps except the reset. Although when I checked the Task manager again I found what was eating all the CPU usage. Something called Dvdupgrd.exe

Is that a known virus or malware?

The first thing to do in such cases is to find the exe on your hard disk, look in what folder it resides, what creation and change date the folder and the file show, what the other contents of that folder are and what the properties of the file say (such as maker, purpose and version).
That usually says quite a lot to the owner who knows his way around his own PC.

So please post those details to continue the discussion with that information.
