LAPTOP REVIEWS & BUYING ADVICE

by mvkt / January 28, 2010 8:26 AM PST

By the time "reviews" are published, some products (e.g. @ Best Buy) are no longer available!
After doing some recent online research (esp. CNet), I'd decided on a particular Toshiba Satellite, based on reviews and the most important-for-me specs (-S6980 available only @ Best Buy, citing their particular # "A505-").
Of course, that "model" is sold out, no longer available, no re-order, and BB offers no info on what is replacing that version.
ANY SUGGESTIONS on where to find current reviews of currently-available mid-priced laptops??

The best buy site, pick a model and then google that as well as add the word CNET REVIEW on your search.

Works for me.

"Try" (Laptop Reviews & Buying...)

Thanks, I'll try that again. However, Best Buy puts their own Model # on name-brand laptops (and other items) which they've ordered from name-brand suppliers, so it's more difficult to find a review of a currently-available product.
The particular Toshiba Satellite (@ Best Buy), well-reviewed in November, was completely gone by January and BB couldn't even tell me what is or would be in stock (w/same features)to replace the one that I'd wanted.
[Btw, only reason for BestBuy is their 18-mo. no-interest financing!)

Toshiba Satellite models @ BB-
by IgoZoomX2 / January 29, 2010 3:08 PM PST

The A505-S69803 is appears to be the replacement for the S6980. Unfortunately, it has 'Limited Availability' and it doesn't appear to be in stock in any of the Best Buy stores in my area (Atlanta). It appears to be a closeout/discontinued item now.

For $679, BB has the A505-S6005 with equal or better specs to the S6980. It has the new Core i3-330M processor (2.13GHz), the much-improved Intel GMA HD graphics and uses faster DDR3 RAM. The exterior design is slightly different, but all the other specs seem to be the same. It looks like a solid setup for the price!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
