Laptop recovers from fatal error every time I boot up

Jun 20, 2007 2:32AM PDT

I have an HP dv9000t that is only a month or so old. After I first got it, it worked fine and I had no problems. When I customized it I chose to get the webcam add on. But, I could not find any information on how to use it in the manuals, online or anywhere else I looked. So, I started searching around the different files and things to see if I could find anything.

I went to Scanners and Cameras to see if anything was listed and there was an option for a Ricoh Digital Camera driver so I chose to install that. Ever since I did that, I've had problems every time I turn on my computer. It says there was a problem and Windows needs to repair itself. So I run it through the process, but it can never repair itself. If I don't run the repair wizard, I can't turn the computer on. So, after I run the wizard it shuts down and then I can turn it on.

Windows said to delete the driver for the camera, but I cannot find the driver anywhere. Does anyone know what I should do?

I'm worried that before long it is not going to start at all.

Please, any help you can give would be great, if I can't get it figured out here, my next step is HP customer support Sad

thanks

Perhaps you can perform a System Restore point to a time/date prior when the driver was installed.

Also, you may be able to uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs or the Device Manager.

But your best bet for getting it working correctly may be to contact the vendor's or manufacturer's customer/tech support since it is a new purchase.

Hope something here is helpful.

I found the two drivers under the device manager and uninstalled them. So, hopefully that will solve the issue.

that you couldn't find any information online about how to use your webcam. That's funny, because it only took me a few clicks and a couple of entries on the HP Web site to come up with this:

HP Notebook PCs - Quick Webcam Setup with Vista

If you have XP, there is a link in the above to take you to that information

If you do need drivers for the webcam -- which I doubt, because it is almost inconceivable that HP installed the cam and not the drivers -- you can find them nearby on the same site.

If this paper does not answer your questions, HP has many more related to webcams. Also, on the site it is very easy to ask a question by clicking the Contact HP button. You can use on-line chat or e-mail. My experience, with other vendors, is that on-lin chat is good if you are troubleshooting a problem and need some interactive advice, and e-mail is good for simple questions such as yours.

Thanks for the link

I had read through all my manuals and there was nothing listed for it. I'm not really sure why, I assume because it is an option and isn't standard, but not for sure.

I have tried the HP website as well and typed in the question and searched, but I just kept getting results back for HP Digital Cameras, I went through all the results and couldn't find anything. I did get a few options for the webcams, but it was only that it was an option and a link to buy the external webcam.

Anyhow, I did get it figure out. I haven't started that computer up yet, so I will keep my fingers crossed that everything goes okay.

Thanks again!
