laptop power supplies interchangeable???

Mar 28, 2015 2:48PM PDT

So.is it safe to use 2 different power cords for laptops which have same volt but different amps????

19v/3.24a and 19v/1.75

I don't want to use the higher amp supply and fry my new laptop.

Power supplies give the current (A) needed in the specified voltage (V), but no more current than they are ranked for. So you can substitute a higher A for a lower A, but not the other way around since they give less power than the device needs.

Some laptops have a third wire to lock out incompatible supplies. You can google Laptop Power Supply Third Wire to catch up on why this was done.
