On top of that, the LCD and all the parts have a finite number of hours they will work.
Decide how to use them.

I've read alot of the debates on whether or not to power off desktop systems when not in use, but I was wondering if leaving my laptop on for extended periods of time is bad for the machine. What I'm most worried about is the crazy amounts of heat the laptops seem to generate; all the internal components are so much closer together compared to the insides of a desktop, and I don't think as much air is circulating through a notebook. My laptop fan seems to turn on pretty often after it's been running for a while, but I'm not sure if that's good or bad.
