Question

Laptop pluged in, not charging

Apr 16, 2016 5:02PM PDT

Hi!
I have an HP laptop that is plugged in but not charging, (windows10)
It's the second time over the last few months that this has happened.
The firts time I solved it by unistaling the battery driver and reinstaling it and stoping explorer.exe and restarting it again and rebooting.
But this time it's not working...
Looked everywhere but the only solution I ever see is this one.

Cannot remove battery (built-in).
Cable A1
Not over-heating
No update needed
No energy saving mode enable or battery life extending programs...
Have try shuting it down but still will not charge even powerd off...
Have run diagnostic tool, every thing is good...

Please help.. I really do not know what to try anymore...

Thanks!

Answer
This is a first?

I've yet to find a laptop with a truly can't unplug the battery setup. I do have to open the case to unplug or replace it but so far and I'm guessing here, folk don't want to go under the covers.

If so, check your warranty and get repair estimates.

In the future supply full model numbers as without that I can't look up other ideas.

Battery and warranty
Apr 17, 2016 7:58AM PDT

Hi, yes I'm not really fond of the idea of opening the cover of my laptop. I would but as a last resort!
Warranty has expired as the laptop is over a year old Sad
Will look for the model number and post it as soon as I find it
Thanks

Here's a procedure I use to test the hardware.
Apr 17, 2016 8:04AM PDT

Since I don't want to see Windows interfere with the battery charging I do this as a Hardware Test.

1. Unplug charger and battery. Even if I have to pop the back off.
2. Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds.
3. Plug in the battery, if need be the coverrs.
4. Apply the charger and don't boot.

Then I let it sit to charge. I want it to have the usual LED lights to tell me it's charging and in a hour or two it should change color to fully charged. WINDOWS NEVER RUNS in this test.

If it can't charge the battery in this condition it's a hardware issue.
