laptop peripherals

Aug 1, 2004 12:37AM PDT

Hi. I am having the most annoying problem. My laptop will not open windows if I have my monitor and docking station hooked up. I just get a blank screen. I have to boot up into windows, then plug in periphs. Help!

Running an HP Pavillion N5495, almost 3 years old. Micro XP Home, Pen III, 1066.

I am so frustrated...please help!!!!

Here's my bet. That XP isn't factory installed. You didn't write about that.

Here's the brutal issue that wipes out most at-home OS installers. Nothing wrong with that, but most don't know to hunt down latest BIOS, motherboard drivers and more for their machine. No one tells them this.

Also, some machines just don't run XP. At the office, we roll those up to 2000 Pro if they run that and the current state of affairs is that we are almost out of the lovefest that was Dos based Windows. Only a few machines remain and that's just for backwards compatibility testing. And you don't want to know about that.

Actually, my XP is factory installed. This is a problem that just "popped up", it had worked fine before. Any other ideas???
Thanks

In that case... System Restore.

XP's System Restore is what I'd use.
