So it's not the power jack.

With that out of the way, you may want to tell more such as make and model. Those HP dv6000/9000s are well known for this issue but it appears this is some tech shop. I bet you've seen that bad one.

Isn't that 7 or so years old and a P4 based machine?

That model was falling into shops years ago. Today you know to never accept it at the front desk. Sure, swap jacks, ports and little things but this one is one of those you know to never tell the owner it's fixable for less than another laptop.

A75

At LEAST 7 years old, the battery costs more than the thing is worth, IMO not a fixer.

Just a memory jogger for those that forgot those days.

Many years ago a few laptop makers bent the rules and used Pentium 4 3+GHz CPUs in laptops. The result was a fast but short lived laptop. But the market wanted such a thing. When these began to show up in shops we had a few tricks to eek out a few more months of life such as heatsink cleaning, fresh compound and my favorite trick, installing a slower P4.

I haven't seen one of these in over 4 years.

Yes and they got hotter than a two dollar pistol because of the P-4 not to mention you'd pull your shoulder out of the socket carrying them around pretty heavy, there were other manufacturers who used that P-4, same scenario.

Memories or use the way back machine?

Wow, I forget how bad that line was.

It was the fastest thing you could get back then. And many had issues. Tosh tried to sort out the worst of the issues but there were a lot that never came back.

I don't want to upset anyone but frankly only a newb tech would commit to fixing that one.
