laptop not showing usb drive icon

i recently bought an usb drive case with new hardrive. my laptop recognized the usb drive and stalled it for ready to use. however, i do not see the icon in the 'my computer' selection. please help

Have you formatted it yet?

Remember, the drive must be formatted before Windows can 'see' it. If you haven't formatted it yet, click here for instructions on one way to go about it.

If you have formatted the drive and it's still not showing up, click here to download TweakUI from Microsoft. Run it, expand My Computer, and select Drives from the left-hand column. Proceed to scroll through the list of drive letters and place a checkmark to every one that does not have a red question label attached. OK your way out then check My Computer again and see if the drive's listed.

how can i format the drive once it is in the usb case

Thanks for the info. i dont think i have formatted the drive yet. how do i format it now that it is in the usb case?
