Since this is running 10 you should be able to create the Windows 10 USB or DVD and reinstall from scratch. The method you used doesn't work.
So, it turns out my laptop is incapable of shutting down properly.
If I shut it down or let it sleep/hibernate then turn it back on after a few minutes, everything seems fine.
But when I wait a while (anything like an hour or more), it does not come back on when I hit the power button. I first have to hold down the power button for some seconds (like forcing a shutdown) before I can hit the power button a second time for it to come on.
Also when it is not connected to a power supply, when it comes on, the battery is usually slightly depleted (depending on how long I waited, around 70% left) like it was still somehow on all this while.
I have tried a bunch of things from different forums but nothing has worked.
My laptop is a DELL Inspiron 3542. I have Windows 10 installed. I have updated the BIOS and I have turned off Fast Startup and Hybrid Sleep.
I dont know if this might be related but the hard disk in the laptop is what I used in my old laptop. After I bought this one I simply switched out the hard disk, installed the drivers again and updated the system. Everything seems ok asides from this.
