Laptop Modem

Sep 19, 2004 11:12PM PDT

I've got an IBM Thinkpad running Win98. I use it mostly for travel, accessing the internet using a 3COM 56K dialup modem.

Last month I replaced my home DSL modem and router with a combined modem/router. Since it has a USB port, I hooked up the Thinkpad by USB and installed the USB modem software, then downloaded a bunch of updates.

Now I can't the 3Com modem to work; I get a message that it's not working or is inactive.

Do I need to change some configurations? If so, how? Do I have to uninstall the DSL modem software?

(I hate to ask this, but please be thorough/specific in your answers. I'm about to leave on a trip, and I might not have a chance for follow-up questions.)

Thanks much as usual!

The supplier of the DSL equipment (your ISP) will have answered this one many times by now and should have the answer handy.

Thanks Bob! Um ... I think ...

But in my experience with any tech support, especially ISP's, the techs act like they're hearing every problem for the first time ever, and like I'm the only freak in the world to whom this could happen.

But okay, I'll try it ...

In the meantime ... does anybody else have something specific for me to try, before I leave on my trip?
