Laptop - Locked out

Hey guys, I have a question about logging into a laptop that has the Microsoft login activated. It was my father's old laptop but he can no longer remember the password to get me in. Is there any way to bypass this and gain access to it? Or can I get into the BIOS and re-format the hard drive? Any hints, tips, suggestions would be of benefit. thanks in advance.

If it's the windows password.

I just boot my NTPASSWD CD (see google), press return a few times, answer a menu item about resetting the password and I'm in.

For Windows HOME you only need to boot SAFE MODE and use the admin account and there you can change any user's password.
