Laptop LCD monitor rolling, how do I fix it

by kadtree / April 22, 2009 9:53 AM PDT

Hi, I have a HP Pavillion laptop, and a few days ago, it started rolling, and it won't stop until I play with it forever. I am thinking there might be a short in the monitor, can I fix this, or any suggestions?

Is this an external monitor?

And what model laptop?

It matters since that 8600m chip is known to fail.

Does it roll at all times?

Or just when windows boots?

Does SAFE MODE roll? If so, game over. Let HP fix it.

It rolls when you turn it on

It is in the monitor part of it I think.... It rolls and rolls like an old tv use to the horizontal...

It will quit if I keep moving the screen back and forth, then I can do anything once it is stabeled, but if I accidently shake it, or if someone walks to hard, it rolls again

Let's be clear here.

That's just "part of the laptop" and not a monitor. Now that we know it sometimes works and what fixes it and breaks it, the accepted fix is to replace the LCD panel. Here's why. The panel will come with new cables from the mainboard to the display panel as well as the LCD.

Remember there are no user serviceable parts in this area. So it's unlikely you will fix this given the story so far.
