Question

Laptop Keyboard Freeze Ups

Jan 17, 2015 12:09PM PST

Just lately, I've had problems with my keyboard freezing up while I'm typing. I am using Opera Browser, & it only happens on my AOL accountl Laptop is a HP Presario CQ 56. OS Windows 7. I have a lot of trouble with my AOL account, & am seriously thinking about deactivating it, & go with another email program. Unless somebody has some ideas of what's causing it. I read on another forum that a program called SpinRight had fixed this person's laptop, but, I can't afford something I have to pay for. It's typing beautifully on this page, no problems. I need help, PLEASE!

Clarification Request
So have you tried other than Opera?

Have you tried a new Windows account?

Sometimes you meet a client that can't try things.

Spinright was nice in its day, why would you suspect the HDD?

Keyboard freezing

I just went to Chrome, & it didn't do it there, & hasn't been doing it at Opera either. Probably because I asked for help. LOL! Thanks for the suggestion. I keep Chrome as my back up browser 'cause once in a while it will act up on me. Or it may be my AOL that's causing the problem. If I download the actual AOL program, my computer will freeze up really bad. So I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of AOL. Thanks again for your input!

Windows at times is a running toilet.

Installing something can "jiggle the flush lever." Sorry for the awful analogy but with so many moving bits, you may have fixed something by installing Chrome.

I had 2 updates that I had to download manually, & I think the updates may have caused the freeze ups. I did get rid of Opera, & am using Chrome. But, I've had problems with it in the past too. I'm going to keep a close eye on it, & if it starts messing up, I'll download Firefox. Thanks for your input!

Late last night, Chrome started doing the same thing. I got rid of Opera, & have installed the new Firefox, & so far, so good. I'm hoping this solved the problem. And, I HATE when Windows sends me a download & tells me how to do it, but what they list doesn't exist on my laptop.

And you've tried running in Safe Mode..doing the standard scans, MWB, etc.? A couple of months ago I helped a lady who was having issues with AOL. after the smoke cleared, she's now using Mozilla and Gmail as primary, IE and Win Live mail as a secondary, bye bye AOL. Opera was OK back when but any more ...past its' prime.
