The laptop charging circuit could keep trying to charge it and burn out. Your better techs will tell you to never leave failed batteries in laptops. Why no one writes this is likely because it could reduce new laptop sales.
If the machine works, I'd ignore lights, remove the battery before it fails altogether.
I see under 20 buck batteries at http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=inspiron+b130+battery&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=4657501247&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4205415844137790754&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_3cganrcw13_b
so what's the reason to leave a dead battery in there?

Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron B130 laptop.
The battery life is over but the battery is still inside the laptop. The laptop functions only on Mains now.
Today for quite some time the HD indicator Green light - 2nd from left has started flickering and sometimes goes off ( although I still have about 11 GB free space ) whereas the battery light flickers Red and remains On even when I shut down.
What could be the problem?
Any help appreciated.
