I have discovered the mobile hotspot option on my Lenovo ideapad (windows 10) I wondered if I was to connect my phone up to it , would it be free or would I have to pay?.

thanks for the reply , it did help to some extent!. However I meant there's an option on my laptop for a hotspot and I meant if I turned it on and connected my phone to the laptop hotspot would it charge me?. I didn't mean for it to sound like I'm talking about a phone hotspot , I meant a laptop hotspot my apologies!.

The Phone Is What Creates The Actual Data Connection...

...and as such, the phone is what will charge you, if anything, for using it to connect to the internet. Although the Ideapad has the ability to be a free hotspot, it MUST have an internet connection to allow itself and other hotspot connected computers to access the net. Basically, it "shares" the internet connection it already has with other computers. If that's done through your phone, then data charges through your phone will be charged based on your data plan. If the internet connection is done from an ethernet cable connected to another network, then it won't cost anything.

Hope this helps.
