Question

Laptop help - sound issues

Apr 14, 2020 3:36PM PDT

Hi All

I have a cheap laptop - was hoping to simply use it for ITunes and some games. The issue is both on Itunes and games, the sound is very choppy and cuts out. I know this laptop isn’t anything great, but was hoping to get it to work for these tasks. I’ll attach a pic of the specs. Any help is appreciated.

I guess I can’t attach a pic of the specs so here they are

Answer
Games would be a card game.

Itunes would be the only thing running. That sort of laptop is pretty much an one trick pony with no games.

Thanks! Even with just ITunes running, it won’t play back a song smoothly. Is this thing that crappy? Is upgrading it even realistic? Or just buy something else.

Answer
Very low performance machine.

1. The HDD is dogging what little this machine has to offer with only 5400 RPM.
Userbenchmark does call it out as well as "With a relatively low single core score, this CPU can handle email, light web browsing and basic audio/video playback, but it will struggle to handle CPU intensive tasks."

Let's see what we can do for free.
2. Clean off McAfee.

That's about it.
3. It has a single stick of RAM so you can get about a 10% boost to CPU and graphics by getting that second 4GB stick.

4. The HDD is the cheapest they could find. Replace it with SSD.

This won't let it game but it may play YouTube and Netflix.

Thank you

Thank you for your feedback and honesty! I’ll clean off McAfee and accept the fact that this can only be used for basic tasks...
