Question

Laptop has m.2 ssd stick but want to install a standard ssD.

Aug 27, 2016 11:44AM PDT

Hi all. I've bought a normal.ssd 480gb but opening up the laptop.for first time it is using an m.2 stick sdd. is there an ssd housing and pack that I can buy to replace the stixk with traditional ssd.. Laptop is hp250 g4. 128gb. All the Google and YouTube links show a normal HD but mine has a smaller caddy and ssd stixk in it.

I opened the new ssd so I can't return it and am.out of HD space on stick.. so wd prefer a to install and use new ssd as boot drive solution rather than as an external.

Found a video but as you found out

You have the wrong SSD.

I see there's some adapter that is likely to be only from HP so while this is a harsh way to learn to do deep research before such outlays you have to ask HP for that cable and caddy.

What do you mean you can't return it?

Contact the merchant and tell them you want to swap the unit for a 500GB m.2.

Yes it will cost you some bucks but so won't the caddy and cable.

Unlike opened software,

opened hardware should be able to return it. However some store may charge a 15% restocking fee. Where did you buy it?

hi all bought from ebuyer... so i will check on monday.

been looking at the hp website,

inside of my laptop looks like i can remove the m.2 components with just 2 screws and the sdd drive fits into the space easily.

i take it its not as simple as just buying the sdd connector and installing that way?
