You are not going to get a significant heat difference from changing the hard drive. 4200rpm hard drives will run slightly cooler but not by much and they are slower. The upgrade in RAM will not do much either.
You either have to use a Targus Podium Coolpad to allow airflow to the main vents underneath the notebook or use the laptopgellyfish or get another notebook.
I own what has turned into a dreaded dell 600m. I have tried every possible way to reduce the heat comming from the hard drive (under the left palm rest). I understand that hard drives create heat, but not this much. Does anyone know of a hard drive thats the same speed or higher (5400) and of 30gb or higher that runs alot cooler?
Dell servies has done everything they seem willing to do, uncluding replacing the hard drive, which didnt do anything. They recomended upgrading the RAM from 512 to 1024, to reduce how often the computer must run the hard drive. I dont what to try this option, although more RAM is always good, untill there are no more options left, because it seems like alot of money for something that may not fix the problem.
I know there are litle pads you can put there for your hand to rest on, but I fell a hard drive fix would be the best answere.
Thanks for any help
