I am not aware of any other manufacturer that makes
a 7200 rpm drive for notebooks. The Hitachi 7K60 is
a lone wolf in the class.

People think that a higher rpm will mean more power, but the Hitachi uses the Femto slider which does not
drain more power and comes close to the 5400 rpm in
power consumption.
The performance increase can be noticeable. You can
read this Hitachi paper on the topic, but in summary
Hitachi claims a 71% increase in data rate and 45%
improvement in latency.

It is drives like these that are bridging the gap
between notebooks and desktops.
I'm looking at upgrading my internal hard drive in my Inspiron 8600...
are certain manufacturers better than others? should i avoid certains ones?
would i notice much of a performance boost going to a 7200 rpm drive versus my existing 4200?
