If not, it looks like a hardware failure as you can't move the cursor keys to select the other start modes.
To answer in advance in case you forgot to backup, the drive can be removed, placed in some USB case to copy out your files. Restoring or repairing the OS is not a good move until the files are safely on the backup COPIES.
I have an acer 5100 aspire laptop. it is frozen completly on my sign in password screen. I powered it down every which way and when the black screen comes up that says "windows didnt shut down properly" it wont let me do anything with the arrows to start in any mode. None of the keys are working. I am thinking that this must be a button or something easy to fix cause I did not install anything or download anything prior to the freeze. It just froze up, even the mouse pad doesnt work.
