Laptop for work.

Jun 9, 2009 1:59AM PDT

I am starting a online class for real estate appraisal and need to buy a new laptop. I thought of a PC but just want the luxury of portability. I know in the future I will be using this laptop for work. I am not the most computer savvy person in the world so any help is grateful. I know battery life, performance and price are my main concerns. My budget would be some where between 500 and 700. I would love to keep it under 700 if at all possible. Any suggestions?
I have kinda been looking online at laptops but I am just not informed enough to make in my opinion a proper choice.
Thanks in advance.

Chris

That HP is definitely a good computer at a good price, I second LongBeach's recommendation.

If you want to see a couple more options, however, I recommend you check out this new site called Laptop ScoutSadhttp://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-laptop-scout/default.aspx)

Aside from providing you with a list of laptops that?ll meet your needs and budget, it also simplifies some of the more technical computer terms to make it easier for laptop shoppers to understand more of the jargon.

I did a quick search for some lightweight and powerful computers using Laptop Scout for you, and a couple of matches popped up: an HP Pavilion dv4-1225dx ($599.99) is a good little laptop that?s light, but still powerful enough to handle what you?d need it for. For something that packs a little more punch, there?s also the Gateway UC7807u, which has a few more multimedia options, but does cost a little more ($689.99).

There were a couple more laptops listed at the site that might match what you?re looking for, so I recommend checking them out.

Let me know if you?ve got other specific questions about laptop shopping, as I?ll be glad to help in any way I can!
Thanks,
Cody

Sorry, totally misread the post and thought "Chris" was a different person than "LongBeach"-- time to get another cup of coffee, I think.

Regardless, let me know if the site is useful, or if you have any questions. Good luck with your shopping!

Thanks,

A Lenovo ThinkPad T400 would do the job. Get the LED screen for better battery life. You can add both extra cells and a second battery for battery life.

If your needs are modest (and they sound modest) you can get a basic T400 and match your budget. What I especially like about the Thinkpads is the keyboard layout makes working on a laptop keyboard almost as nice as a regular keyboard.
