Question

Laptop for school

Aug 14, 2017 5:20AM PDT

I've recently bought a Lenovo Flex 4 1570 80SB. I got a good deal on it and thought why not buy it, I'm going into engineering and the specs weren't bad for what I might run into: i7 processer, 8GB Ram tb HDD, plus I have a two week gap to return it. I really like the look, feel, and portability of it, but I'm concerned it may not be right for my needs.
My main question has to do with graphics... The laptop only has integrated graphics; if I stick with engineering with this laptop work decent for 3d rendering programs like autoCAD? And would updating to SSD and a larger RAM makeup for the graphics? I'm also open to any other tips or reviews regarding the laptop.
Thanks

I've seen such "work".

Since you can google if AutoCad works the question is performance. You might have to wait for the render, it may not be zippy but should run.

More RAM won't affect it much since 8GB is already at the sweet spot. We are talking all about performance and without a GPU you get to wait for the redraw.

Since this is for school and that's much more than AutoCad you should not worry about this as all the schools I know have lab PCs for the course.

And no. SSD only helps in load times, not graphic redraw times. https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/intel-hd-620-integrated-graphics-for-autocad-work/td-p/6664750 is the usual back and forth.

- Do the graphics meet the minimum or preferred requirements for the programs you want to run on this laptop?
- Adding RAM and moving to an SSD wouldn't make up if it doesn't.

Had a longer reply but it's not showing.

AutoCad does appear to run on the Core i7 6500U graphics. It won't be zippy so there's that.
Should be fine for school work.

It should, the reqs for autocad are not that high.

Ssd would be nice, watch your disk space usage to see if a 500GB unit will work.

Ram, watch your ram usage, it should not take very long to see if more ram would be of value.
