laptop for high school student

My 14 year old son needs a sturdy, not-too-heavy, laptop for taking notes and running voice recognition software. We want to stay as much under $1,000 as we can, and get him a laptop that will make it for a few years of adolescent schooling. Any suggestions?

I just did this. We picked up that $499 laptop by Fujitsu you find at Walmart. I'm sure it has voice recognition and he is also running Sword of the New World on it so it appears to run games.
