Both those are great!

As far as ?bang for your buck? goes, both the computers you listed do a great job of providing that. I?m sure you?ll find some folks that say the Dell is better and some will say that the HP is better, but really, it comes down to deciding which one is better for you. Those are both pretty heavy as far as laptops go, so keep that in mind while shopping. Are you going to be carrying them around campus all the time?

Regardless, if you?re definitely going to get one of those two, either one will probably be more than capable of handling most anything you can throw at it, schoolwork or multimedia-wise. If you want to take a look at some other brands and models that are similar before you make your decision, you should check out this new application called ?Laptop Scout.? Here?s a link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-laptop-scout/default.aspx

You can use the site to compare and contrast different laptops based on things like price, performance, and features. For example, for just $1249.99 (a little over your budget, I know), Laptop Scout found a Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 that has a faster processor than the HP, has the same screen size, and weighs almost two pounds less.

I?m not trying to sway you one way or another, just wanted to make sure you had as much info available before you make your decision!

Good luck!
Thanks,

Dell vs. HP
May 21, 2009 7:36AM PDT

I've had Dell and HP laptops. Dell has broken more and given worse support than HP. For that reason alone I'd go HP. My HP was ultimatly given to someone who needed a computer. It's still working. My Dell sits on a shelf under warranty and non functional due to a disagrement with dell over the warranty. I paid to prove my case. Dell cited policy. I would have to hire a Lawyer to help them come to the right decision. I have no use for that in a company I work with. HP wins hands down.
