Resolved Question

laptop for a desktop

Jun 4, 2014 1:29PM PDT

Looking to put an Intel i7 3610QM into a MiniITX or MiniATX motherboard, however, I'd much rather hear from the experts because it'd be really nice if the CPU could fit in the MOBO.

This is just a little project of mine. I'm not expecting any miracle machine, just something that could run Windows 7 32-bit, and mostly quiet. Hoping to fit it in a MiniATX case too.

Any suggestions are always appreciated.

Since you did not list the motherboard

I can't check it's CPU SUPPORT LIST.

Hope you see why that matters.

Unclear.

https://communities.intel.com/thread/46387 is a typical complaint and here while the board listed PGA988 the intel ark noted FPGA988 so it's an inexact match.

To make this worse I could not find the usual CPU SUPPORT LIST for your board.

Thanks for the help; thought it'd be a fun little project. Didn't find a board with any reasonable price. Most ranged from $200-500+ which is out of the question. Thinking of selling it but nobody in their right mind would buy a PC with sub-par specs when a decent HTPC can be build for under $250.

....mini-ATX cases aren't intended to be a wind tunnel, which might be required to clear the heat produced when using a high powered processor. Compares to shoving a 454ci "rat" engine into a chevy vega.
