Laptop DVR via Firewire with HDTV

I have a Toshiba 42HP95 HDTV with dual Firewire outputs. I have seen devices such as the Toshiba Symbio DVR that allow you to use the firewire ports, and not have to pay a monthly fee.

I would like to know what I need to add (software or hardware) to my computer to make it act like a DVR. My computer already has a Firewire card in it. Do I need a tuner card or software for it? Any suggestions are much appreciated.

You can get a USB tunner/capture device for your laptop, and it will come with DVR software.
Can you use it with your TV via Firewire?????
Firewire is high speed interface, to use it you need the drivers for the applacion and the harware that is hooked to the firewire port.
Toshiba does make the DVR the firmware to use it is in the TV and DVR, Toshiba's own.
Your are spoose to be able to hook a miniDV to the TV with firewire and then play on the TV. Don't know if this would also work from a laptop. John
