Laptop doesn't boot into windows. Please help!!!

by johnkipper / January 17, 2010 5:42 AM PST

If anyone can help me please. I use this computer for my business and I have very important information on that I just can't lose. (Hopefully)

My situation is this. I have a laptop Sony VAIO VGN-CS115J. I'm runnign Windows 7 ultimate edition. Yesterday I was on the computer and it was running ok. Once finished i just closed the cover like i always do and it just goes into hybernation and then i just open the cover and windows resumes and that's it. Well, yesterday when i opened the cover it just shut off and restarted. When booting it went into this program Startup Repair. This program completed but gave me an error saying that it cannot repari the computer. I then tried to do a system restore. It let me pick the time and date and so I started the process. It went through the usuall gathering info processing and finalizing. once the process was finshed i got another error saying it cannot restore my computer. I wanted to try this again, but since then it doesn't let me. I just says there are no restore points available. Ok, moving on I tried to go into safe mode and the 1st time it just started haning. then i restarted the computer and said to start normaly. it came to the Windows starting screen with the logo above it and then after 10 minutes of sitting there it started CHKDSK. CHKDSK got to 57% and then started hanging to the point where i had to restart. Repeated this and now CHKDSK got to the end where is said: "Repairing Usn Journal $J data sream. Usn Journal verification completed." and then again started hanging there. so now I tried to go into safe mode again. it started the loading of the drivers and once completed just started hanging again.

The last thing that i did was to run the VAIO Recovery Center, Hardware diagnostic test. I did the individual test HDD Test. It started and the results were:
Linear Seek Test OK
Random Seek Test OK
Funnel Seek Test OK
Surface Scan Test Failed
= Surface Scan test did not pass --- (E-HDD-oo4)
= PLease run Check Disk to recover the wrong sector ---(E-HDD-005)=

Is there anything that I can do to fix this?

But if I do then that won't fix this and my files will be lost.

Put in the new drive and try the old drive on some USB case or cable?

And just wondering. Has anyone told you to backup your stuff?

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
