Companies are referring to portable computers as notebooks now not laptops as all Pentium 4M notebooks and many other cpu types as well will burn your extremities in extended use on your lap. Also, the cooling outlets are often under there as well and not having the notebook on a flat hard surface will lead to overheating.
Look at hpshopping.com for the sake of comparison and decide which notebook model there is best suited for you (they have the desktop replacement zd7000 17" Pentium 4M, Athlon 64 models, and Pentium M Centrino models.
Once you indicate your preference in cpu, notebook size and LCD size it is easier to recommend other company alternatives.
You will not be able to custom order from the US hpshopping.com website from Greece but you can access it for comparison and custom configure notebooks to see pricing for comparison as well.
Hello there,
I live in Athens, Greece. Well done for your nice site. It's quite informative.
The last days, I am facing the ..problem of purchasing a new computing machine. It has been lot of time since I bought a Pentium 133Mhz, 16Mb ram, 1.6 Gb desktop unit. I would like to occasionally change place of working in my home or even transferring the computer to work (rarely in places with no elecric current supply). So I am considering seriously the case of a laptop (is there a difference between that and a 'notebook'?).
I would like the system to have the following specifications:
Processor : Pentium 4. (Although, I don't think that I am going to do much things at the same time. But I try to develop/make better lengthy codes in Fortran language, so I think that such a processor could match)
Memory : expendable to 1024 MB
Hard disk space: 60+GB
Screen : 15''+
Graphics Processor:?
====================================
I don't care that much for low weight or battery life. But I think that processors as Centrino maintain (only with battery supply?) low temperature and thus promote the machine's reliability.
Could you suggest me a brand or even a model? Which are the problems that someone occasionally or typically encounter with a laptop? Are of small life span? Can I actually have a service to my laptop? Is a matter of the particular unit of the model out of the factory? Is there something that computer world awaits for, so I better wait for?
Thank you in advance for your reply.
