Laptop charging issues - looking for better option

Nov 14, 2007 9:32AM PST

Hi All,

So I guess I am rough on my laptops because the last 3 (a Compaq and 2 Averatecs) have eventually died as a result of me not being able to charge them anymore. I know that it is the connection/fit between the AC adapter cord and the computer that is the issue - you have to wiggle the cord around to get it in just the right position so it will actually charge up. This drives me CRAZY, and sending it back to get it fixed (which I have done twice now) also drives me nuts. I feel like I am buying $20 walkmans from 15 years ago whose headphone connections have to be jiggled around after a week so you can hear out of both sides.

Anyhow, I am looking for a new laptop and wondering how I can prevent this problem by buying a laptop less likely to have this issue. Any recommendations on specific machines or ways around this problem aside from being very gentle? Any advice is much appreciated!

"wiggle"

I'm going to not pull any punches here. I have never lost a power connector to this issue. But I am the type that removes the connection with care and never transports the laptop with it plugged in.

If you are losing laptop to this issue it's time for you to go look at the Apple magnetic power connector.

In closing, any decent technician can replace and repair better than 1/2 the bad power connectors. I never lose a laptop over this issue.

preventing AC Plug issues

I found an EZ way to stop all the day to day jerking and pulling on the AC cable. I was looking on Chris Pirillo's geek site and saw this. . . . http://tinyurl.com/3xmqae
