General discussion

laptop battery 73% to 7% in seconds

Feb 13, 2005 9:20AM PST

Battery power last only about 20 mins it is only about 7 months old. It will go from 73% to 7% in just seconds and shut down. Any help would be appreciated especially since I just bought the battery only months ago.

Thanks,
Wayne

When was it made and...

Has it ever been subjected to freezing temperature?

Tell about the host? Make/model/age.

It's unlikely a cure can be found, but do try the drain/calibrate if your laptop supports it. I can't tell since you didn't tell.

And in closing, they are good for about 500 full charge/discharge cycles and then the rest is gravy.

It is an HP n5435 Win XP w/service pack 2 about 4 yrs old. It has always been in the house never extreme temp. The battery is only about 6 or 7 months old.

Then drain/calibrate?

At that age, it's in the timeframe such devices do fail. Also, some not so nice battery rebuilders don't replace all the cells. As such, you see premature failures.

Again, I don't think there is a ready cure without replacing motherboard or battery, but look up about the drain/calibrate on your laptop.
