Is this your setup?:
Internet --- cable modem --- router --- computers

What modem model number?
What router model number?
What operating system is on each computer?

What are these "changes" that you give you concern?

In reply to: please clarify

the modem is a motorola purchased from cox communications, the router is a d-link wrb-2310,both laptop and desktop are dell's running windows xp.before i setup the router through the modem which are both running off the cable modem,i used a program called shields up which checks your security and i was running in complete stealth mode.after plugging in the router shields up notified me that packets sent were now showing up.is this because both computers are using the same name?
and thanks for the reply
