utorrent means that even a fast machine will soon be infected and slow. Sorry to read this and I'm writing from how much crap I see out there.
There are many 500 buck laptops out there. Even woot.com had an i7 Dell yesterday with the usual that was only 299.
As to the camera, it's rarely HD. Use your phone or camcorder?
I've had my mac for about 5 years now and it's time to buy a new laptop. I have very little knowledge about which are better or what specs each has, as I'm quite the casual when it comes to laptops.
Since I'm still working through school I don't have a lot of funds, which is why my budget is right around $500. I know this doesn't give me a lot of wiggle room but it is what it is. There isn't a ton that I do with my computer now though, so I think that budget won't make my choices too limited; I essentially use my laptop for the following: surfing the internet for personal and collegiate use, using utorrent for music/movies - and subsequently watching movies, creating Word/Powerpoint documents, and recording my clinical sessions for school.
I don't know how I feel about the tablet/laptop craze that's been going on but I would be willing to try that. So in sum, if anyone could give me advice about specific laptops that (1) fit my budget, and (2) cover all of those areas I will be using it for [which I don't see as a problem at all], I would appreciate it a lot. Or at least point me in a general direction of where to search. Thanks!
-need a new laptop, mac is dying a slow death
-around a $500 budget (I'm poor)
-I need the laptop to be able to:
1) surf the internet quickly and responsively
2) be able to support utorrent or something of the like
3) have a decent screen to watch movies on
4) be compatible with Word/Powerpoint whether it be already installed or downloaded via utorrent
5) have a decent camera AND be able to record audio clearly for recording my clinical sessions
-I'm not sure how I feel about the tablet/laptop combo but I'd be willing to try
