Laptop accessories and bag suggestions?...

Nov 27, 2006 6:57AM PST

so I, and many other BOL listeners, am getting a laptop and now I think I'll need to get associated stuff like a bag, external 3-button mouse, etc.

Anyone have suggestions or favorite features of accessories?
Simple, small, durable, and inexpensive would be the characteristics I'm looking for in accessories and a laptop bag...

Microsoft Mouse

Microsoft make a really nice wireless mouse for the road. The USB receiver clips into the bottom of the optical mouse for easy storage.

I love the Crumpler bags but find the backpack type bags a bit of a pain if you don't have all that much stuff to carry about.

I usually use a Tech-Air messenger bag for most day to day carrying about.

If any one knows some nice bags for a 12"-13.5" notebook I would love some info!

I too was wondering about this, but didn't want to make too many threads. There is a messenger styled laptop bag at Walmart I might get, ad well as a mouse.

I don't want to get too fancy or expensive either since my laptop won't really be leaving my house that often. When it is, it'll be used at someone elses house, not coffee shops or anything.

I prefer a backpack

Especially if your laptap weighs over 6 lbs and you're lugging around accessories.(You really think you're going to leave that power brick at home?) I use a Wenger SwissGear backpack.

I'm a girl who normally carries a large shoulderbag full of small gadgets...iPods, pda, digital camera, etc, along with the normal girl grooming things. You'd be surprised how heavy a few pounds feel after lugging this purse around all day. So, when I take the laptop out of the house, in the backpack it goes.

I've had my laptop for over 2 years now. Actually, I don't have too many accessories. I bought a wired mouse in the beginning, but I rarely use it. I'm used to the trackpad and buttons. I did get myself an external hard drive to back up my data to just in case - a Buffalo 120 GB (I don't remember the model) - it's a little big but I got it for under a hundred bucks 18 months ago. Then recently, I bought a laptop stand from Targus for about $25. It makes typing a little easier now that it's at an angle.
