Resolved Question

Laptop able to capture mini DV (iee-1394) DOES ONE EXIST ?

Aug 2, 2011 7:23AM PDT

Does anyone know of a laptop that is able to record video from a mini DV camera, I do not want to play games, download music or do anything else, JUST EDIT

I have not been dazzled into upgrading video cameras to sd recording media or dvd's. I have a good old Canon DM-XM1E which produces fantastic pictures onto something called "mini DV Tape" and has mini DV output (sony call it iLink , iee 1394 or firewire elsewhere)

Is there a laptop that still has a firewire socket or a slot that can be turned into a firewire socket.
Any advice much appreciated.

Laptop with firewire or Express Card slot

Apologies for not giving country, I am in England (UK)

Thanks for the reply, sadly my edit software is for a PC not a Mac.
It's just that ever laptop nowadays seems to have USB 3 sockets, an SD card slot and HDMI sockets but the useful express socket seems to have become obsolete overnight.

Sony

Not sure if you are still looking but Sony may still have them. I have a sony laptop VGN-NR140E that has a mini or 4pin firewire connection and I have used it to transfer videos from my sony dv camera to the laptop. Never done any editing just used the movie maker software. It came with Windows Vista.
I have since purchased a sony dvd recorder that does direct transfer as well thru the mini firewire.
I may looking to sell my laptop as I hardly use it so let me know if you are interested.
