land phone question

I have a land phone only. I do not have a cell phone. One end of the telephone line cord goes into the telephone jack on the back of the telephone base. The other end of this line cord goes into the telephone wall jack. Can anyone tell me what would happen if I unplugged this line cord from the telephone wall jack? would I damage anything? I know that I could not make a telephone call if I did that and nobody would be able to call me. But if a person did decide to call me, exactly what would he hear on his end of the phone? If you unplug the phone from the wall jack, nothing will happen. If someone calls your phone while unplugged, I believe it will ring as busy. This has nothing to do with cell phones so this thread is now locked.
