So you think it's a hard issue?

Did you try a discrete LAN card? Even if for only a test.

The "i have to download the definitions and updates manually." is a small clue there may be malware. While I know to uninstall and reinstall apps and antivirus that fail, some won't do that. I can't explain why.

In closing my advice is:

1. Try a discrete LAN card.
2. Uninstall and reinstall that app.
3. Take Grif's advice from http://forums.cnet.com/7726-6035_102-3254948.html

Discrete?

Discrete network as in a seperate card, not intergreated into the motherboard?

Well, thats what i thought about the presence of malware, but microsoft security essentials doesn't detect.i just ran a full scan and it came out clean. will try a trial of norton or avast.

the internet connection thing seem to be less frequent after in installed SP2 manually, but i still am unable to update both windows and the antivirus. I also ran sfc.exe to check the system files. funny thing is that when it comes to 100% it closes by itself and doesn't give you the result. i ran it twice!

is there a possibility of a malware interuptting the internet connection???

since i don't use this pc(my cousin does) he had a couple of toolbar installed and i have removed them too. i'm also planning to reinstall some of the software. i'm actually planning to find my vista dvd and see if i can reinstall the pc myself(the only reason i sent it to the store was i couldn't find the DVD)

Why yes.

Of course it could. But given how many times I've found a bad ethernet port with those symptoms, that's why I noted it. Plus it's cheap (under 9 bucks) and cheaper than a shop fee to diagnose or install.

"is there a possibility of a malware interuptting the internet connection???"

Yes, and why I offered item 3.

Well probably there might have been a malware

I somehow managed to find a retail copy of windows xp at home so I reformatted the paced installed xp,, so farit seems to be ok as I didn't experience the internet connection interuppion for the last 12 hours although windows has a litle yellow triangle at the network status, but I' m able to update the oc and also the antivirus. Only thong now is I'm trying to get the sound card driver, as in vista windows gave it a generic one, but in xp it does't recognize it. The speakers are coneccted directly to the motherboard. I'm using an nVidia nForce 610i/GeForce 7050 unit.

Unidentified network....local only on PC

Well, surprisingly I solved my problem but it took so many days to fix.
I tried every possible step given here but none of them worked for me. I uninstalled Norton anti virus, reset netsh IP etc, tried many times to repair and reset network adapter, after making sure that my router and cable working fine but it something wrong on computer.
Now here what I did, I wanted to change my ram to upgrade speed on this computer and I don't know when and why I was logged in as guest, by mistake I removed ram without turning off computer and I seen screen was fuzzy, there was nothing on screen so immediate I removed power cable from behind the machine. And then I installed new 4 GB ram on this computer. (I had 1 GB ram installed and that's why I wanted to make 4 GB). Fortunately, I noticed that after installing new ram my pc faster and also my this problem solved. How lucky I am? I hope this post will be useful, thank god after so many days finally I resolved issue. When I asked my Acer manufacture they told me I have not warranty period any more so I need to pay $ 180 for help. I was socked and how can they charge so much in this economy. However, I begged them but they said I have no warranty and that's why but I said it's your junk giving me headache?lol.

This makes me ask.

I re-read post #1 and see no mention of changing ram or doing that with the power on.

About the 180 bucks. Did you offer your company a cut in your salary because of today's rough times?
