Lan Problems

Sep 22, 2008 3:11AM PDT

Hey... I have a problem with my Lan networking
I have my desktop connected to the internet through a speedstream router via usb. my desktop uses windows xp sp3. i connect it with the ethernet card with my laptop. I have 2 laptops.. One with xp one with vista home premium. It has a problem keeping the internet connection up. File sharing is ok but when i switch the cable between the 2 laptops i have only local connectivity and i have to disable and re-enable internet sharing so the laptop will have internet access again..
the desktops ip is 192.168.0.1
subnetmask 255.255.255.0
default get. 192.168.0.3
dns 192.168.0.3

and the laptops ip is 192.168.0.3
subnetmask 255.255.255.0
default get. 192.168.0.1
dns 192.168.0.1

for both laptops. i didnt have this problem before..
but now i am losing internet connectivity and ihave to restart the laptop i use and enable sharing connection again.

Any sugestions, ideas how to change laptops without re-enabling connection sharing

thanx!!

I see the old USB connection but as many discover that can be cranky and hard to maintain.

Could be the cause. Sorry but today we know to go get a router to cure this since troubleshooting may only confirm it's some new update and cost far more than the usual 20 buck router.

We like to pop a router in since rolling back the OS can be impossible on some machines. At the 120 bucks a hour the router gets cheap real fast.

The problem somehow was with the firewall. I disabeld it in the lan connection of the pc that has internet and now i can switch between the laptops with no problem at all!!
