lan help is their a way..........

by Usernameniner / January 23, 2008 8:29 AM PST

Ok, I use a motorola sb5120 for my modem. Im running windows me ( yes i know ) and this pc, doesnt have an ethernet slot. The computer I want to set up a lan to, has xp and is compatible. It is a d-link router, Id use. ( I don't like being negative ) but worse phone customer support. ( Not everyone )...I went out and bought a linkysys pci adabter, and put it in this computer, thinking it would be an ethernet slot. ( there is opened slots, and i could instal ) it was supposed to recognize it, it's plug and play, it didnt, I also used the software. I really cant afford to pay comcast 160 to set up a lan, when I hopefully will get a new comp soon as well as I dont want to pay to rent modems.

Im asking if there is anything cheap I could buy to instal on this computer, so I could plug in an ethernet cable. ( under 50 bucks )Must be compatible with windows me.

Thanks in advance.!

I don't know what kind of software Comcast provided for you,

some are better than other.

As for hardwares are concern, you have the modem and router; all you need is an ethernet card in each computer if it doesn't already have one ( the last time I check..cost about $10 each). You mention pci adapter (I am not sure exactly what you mean by that).

I don't have cable..so I am not too familiar with setting thing up.

and put it in this computer

Mind telling the model of the Linksys Adapter? Usually they come with rather detailed instructions.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
