lagging slow, times out

I have a PC hooked up to a USR wiresless usb connection, the signal strength says excellent, this is located up stairs, when I use it downstairs on another comparable PC the main router is downstairs, the Online game has no issues, however upstairs, it lags, or just keeps timing out? the rest of the internet is ok.
Is there something to boost it or is there a better way?
