By removing the power to the HD before you dragged it to the trash will result in a warning message. If data had been moving to, or from, the drive at the time of the shut down, there is a possibility that the data can be corrupted. Never remove a USB or Firewire device without first dragging it to the trash (Mac) or stopping the service (Win). The Power outage may have damaged the directories enough to prevent the HD from mounting on the desktop. How did the Christmas lights get on the desktop??
I'm surprised that the drive works very well at all. USB 1 is really much too slow for a HD channel. Now that it does not mount on the desktop, try attaching it directly to the USB port on the Mac, not the hub, and see what happens. Leave it attached and run Disk Warrior on it. This will fix the directories and hopefully bring the device back into use.
What software did you install?? It is a USB HD and does not need any software for the Mac. Go ahead and install the Firewire/USB card and connect it to that. If your USB hub is not USB 2.0, then do not use it with the combo card.
As a rule of thumb, use a Firewire device for a Mac and a USB 2.0 device for a PC. Firewire is actually faster over the long term transfer.
This question might have been better in the Mac hardware forum. External devices behave differently on a Win box than they do on a Mac.

I purchased an 80 Gig. LA CIE PORSCHE USB 2 External Hard Drive for my Mac QuickSilver Server back in September 04. I have used it very little.
About Christmas time my wife plugged in the outdoor Christmas light to my electrical outlet for the LA CIE to my Mac.
I started up my Mac and the LA CIE hard drive icon was on my desktop during startup. So were the Christmas lights.
I shut off the power to the LA CIE and had an error warning that was one or more components on your external hard drive may have been damaged.
Never gave it a thought until a few days ago.
Tried to launch the 80 GIG Ext. Hard Drive. The hard drive does not show up on my desktop.
What damage did I do to the external hard drive by just shutting the power off to it last December?
I tried reinstalling the software and still the external hard drive fails to mount to the desktop.
Any suggestions out there from Mac people?
Is this a common problem with LA CIE?
Another question: I am not set up presently for a hub port drive for USB 2. Would that effect launching the Ex. Hard Drive? I recently purchased a TANGO 2.0 Firewire/USB 1.1/2.0 Combo Card. Have not installed it yet. Plan to do so very soon.
Should I plug the present USB on the LA CIE directly into my Mac and forget the Belkin 4-port hub!
Thanks for your help.
