Question

KVM

Jun 21, 2015 9:06PM PDT

I want to resurrect my XP computer because I cannot use my Adobe Photoshop (very old) on Win 7. I need to be able to connect my USB mouse, keyboard and printer, along with my monitor. I looked at devices online and can see video plus 4 USB ports going in (?), but I do not see 4 USB ports going out, nor do I see a video port going out. It has been many years (think Win 95) since I used a switch and would like information on what I need to accomplish this. Thank you.

I would also check to make sure KVM would work with hub/switch. Just something to think about.

I have looked online, but cannot afford any of the items (retired on Social Security). I tried Gimp, which might be a potential alternative to Photoshop, but it is not an alternative to Pagemaker. I have a disk for Corel Paint and Corel Draw and I will have to investigate those. If that doesn't work, I may just have to keep reinstalling virtual machine with XP.

Answer
There are USB switches.

But as you discovered no perfect one box. Add some USB switch box to finish?

Would that mean

No.

How many ports should I see on the KVM?

As many as required for the setup.

Sorry but the seller should be asked next if it will do the work.

Answer
why not install XP

into a virtual drive in Windows 7, then you can switch back and forth between them.

I have done that

After a couple uses, it refuses to open. I then have to uninstall and reinstall. I have reinstalled many times.

Any other problems?

sounds like data corruption happening. Might run memtest program on the RAM, just to be sure it's OK.

I will try that.
