KVM solutions for multiple setups?

by dealtadawn / December 15, 2008 3:17 AM PST

Ok, I've read a few threads but nothing that seems to match exactly what configurations I want and which kvm switch to get or any other possible solution.

I have a xps 420 running vista ultimate. I have a xps 700 running xp prof (although I do have the free vista premium upgrade software, just haven't done that, not sure if I want to). I would like to be able to use 1 keyboard and 1 mouse for either cpu and have the option to either use one of the monitors soley for each computer or on occasion use both monitors for either of the computers.

scenario 1: playing WoW on 700, want just 1 monitor connected to this. d/ling a bittorrent file on the 420, want the other 1 monitor connected to that computer. want 1 keyboard and 1 mouse to be able to switch back and forth between computers/monitors with both computers running concurrently but independently of one another.

scenario 2: playing wow on 700 with main monitor. want 1 keyboard, 1 mouse but want the 2nd monitor connected to same computer for checking on other sites/email/wowhead etc while playing wow using main monitor.

Honestly, the first scenario is a temporary one as I want to hook the 420 up to my tv and use it as a dvr, but until then I'd like to have this first scenario option available if possible. Once I've sorted the 420 to the tv then scenario 2 will be my regular desired setup.

Any suggestions, ideas are greatly appreciated.

cheers,
stef
