Feb 7, 2012 9:17PM PST

I have install libdvdcss2 and whatever else has always worked before in 10.10, 9.10, Mandriva, Fedora, Suse etc. and oneiric ocelot doesn't even recognize an encrypted dvd as even existing. Beats me. Any thoughts?

Answer
libdvdcss2 etc.

There is more involved than just doing the libdvdcss2. Go to the browser and look at playing DVD 's with Linux 11.10, there should be steps shown to accomplish the task, including libdvdcss etc. Playing DVD'S is one thing, burning is another, that takes a little more doing. Good luck!!!

Thanks for your response, however, it turned out that my dvdrw drive was defective. The symptoms just didn't make sense. It would read the contents of any disk except encrypted dvds and would play unencrypted dvds without missing a beat. lsdvd said there was no disc in the drive when an encrypted dvd was inserted. I've been around linux for 18yrs. thrashing out all kinds of weird stuff (I love a challenge) and, finally, experience told me to swap out the dvdrw drive. Et voila! Problem solved!
