Kppp/Konqueror problem

Oct 23, 2005 12:40AM PDT

Kubuntu Breezy 5.10
Zoom external serial modem

Set up kppp to use with dial-up ISP
The login shows to be connected
When I try and use Konqueror I get an error message
"Unknown Host"
Tried pinging three different dns and all replied
" Network unreachable"

To reach this point I used Kppp hand book and made the following changes to KPPP

In /etc/ppp/options removed auth and lock and proxyarp
In /usr/sbin I verfied it was a binary file and setuid was checked
In /usr/lib I verfied setuid was unchecked

Auto configure host Name is unchecked
Have two dns addresses
File /etc/host.conf have" order host bind" entries

In Konqueror I verfied "Accept cookies from originating servers" was unchecked

This modem has worked with Suse 9.3

How do I get Kppp and Konqueror to access internet

Thanks in advance for any help
Ray

To configure dialup using the command line:
First check if you have gnome-ppp or install it:

sudo apt-get install gnome-ppp

Then you can configure your conection as follows:

sudo pppconfig

To connect dialup:

sudo pon provider_name

To disconnect dialup:

sudo poff

Good luck !

Kppp/Konqueror

Problem solved after 9 days and 5 Tech's from my ISP

I had my login and password changed just before trying to logon with Kppp. When they entered the password it was not the one I had specified and was using. Straighten that out and all systems now working.

When I asked tech why one password worked for Windows and not for Linux the answer was the old standard "Glitch in the computer system"?????

Thanks
