Kodak Lens Replacement

Apr 6, 2005 3:43PM PDT

I have a Kodak LS443 4 mega pixel camera... the other day it stopped working... (And I never dropped it or anything) everything runs fine except it is as if there is a lens cover on. I can view previously taken pics and all menu options are available... just shows a black screen when taking new pics or when using the screen to take pics.

When I look into the lens while playing with the zoom button, it looks like there is something covering the lens inside (??)

that is the best way to describe it...

btw, the camera is a few months off warranty Sad And I am confident to take such things apart and put it back together, with some direction...

Can anyone help me here?

My alternative is to pay to fix the camera, which will likely be more than the cost of a new one...

Thanks for an help you can provide.

You could also have a battery problem.
If the battery is weak, it may not extend the lens.
But other things could appear to work.
It takes a lot of power to extend the lens.

Your docking station recharges the batteries on that camera.

There has been one report (on this forum) of a Kodak camera having batteries that would not charge due to a bent/missing pin in the connector that mates with the docking station.

.........

Some people have reported that a small slap on the side of a camera can jar loose a stuck lens.

But don't get slap happy and damage the camera.

.........

Some people have reported that they could grasp the lens and pull gently when powering-on a camera to help it extend.

Again, don't over-do it.

..........

Disassembling a camera would be a last resort and likely to cause more damage.

Did you try a new battery? If so, did it help?
