Known problem with 42" LNT-4665F & lack of customer service

Jan 19, 2013 4:37AM PST

I have read about numerous problems with this tv, and saw that Samsung was compensating owners of defective ones. A week ago, ours suddenly made a loud pop/snap, and completely shut down. Immediately smoke started billowing out the top. The following morning, I contacted Samsung, and was referred to the capacitor dept., where the person I spoke with thought my problem may be something different. I was then transferred to someone else, who indicated it might be a liability case and said someone from the Executive Customer Service Dept. would contact me within 2 days. This never happened, so I called on the third day and was told it wasn't a Customer Service problem and I was referred back to the Capacitor Dept. Once again, they assured me it was a problem that should be handled by the Executive C.S. Dept., so I was transferred back there, and spoke with a pleasant gentleman whose name was Robert. (I believe) After going over all the history, he asked if I had my receipt, which I did, said he would have a tech come look at it, and then told me it would not be a free service because it was out of warranty and this tv wasn't known to have a problem. However, I have found numerous reports about this tv having problems. I am disgusted with Samsung and will never deal with them again. This tv cost almost $2000, and didn't last quite 5 years. with little use.
They should be ashamed for leading a loyal customer to think that something would be done, and then doing nothing. I will never buy another product from them, whether it is rated #1 or not, because that was just the case with this tv when we bought it. Now we have a big tv that we will have to pay to dispose of, and will have to buy another one from another manufacturer in spite of known problems and being on a limited income. Thanks for nothing Samsung.
