depending who you ask.

But in any case the use of meta tag keywords for SEO no longer assures increased ranking as Google doesn't use keywords now, and other search engines like altavista also stopped using them. I think Yahoo does, but places much less weight on keywords than it did.

Now a days meta keywords are not important in SEO, all weightag of meta keywords goes to meta title and meta description. So, it is not useful but still you can put your keywords in meta keywords and it should be about 256 characters.

There is limitation of 256 character but if you want to make a good meta-tag so you should use around of 50 to 68 characters for your keywords. This is a limit of properly visible on google.

The limit for keywords meta tag should be maximum three.
